What does it mean to be Australian?

It is Anzac Day on Sunday and today my school had a memorial service. Our class got chosen to hang a wreath on a very special tree at our school.

This tree is a pine tree. You might have heard the story of the 'lone pine', a tree that was the only thing standing after World War 1.

Our sister school in Turkey went and got us some pinecones from this tree and sent them to our school. We planted these and the tree has grown and matured.

Three people in my class were born overseas in places like Japan and Kent but they are Australian citizens.

To be Australian means a lot. Australia is a very lucky place to be. We have plenty of things like produce, water, luxuries and shelter. And the most important thing; we have peace.

When most people think of Australians', they think of the outback and kangaroos' and barbecues'; but being Australian is more than that. Much more.

Australia is a place where you can live in the outback, talk to kangaroos', own fifty horses' and three dogs. Have barbecues every Friday, go camping in the bush, round up the sheep with your mates and clean the old rusty Holden ute.

But we are also like every country in a way. We can go shopping; get our nails and hair done; go to see a movie, hang out at the beach in summer.

Australians' are not all the same. We are all individuals and proud of it.

Australians' stick together.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi!!!
